While I am no longer able to attend many of the free cultural events in the city, I still like to know what's going on and recommend them to others. I'll of course list events that are of primary interest to me and do not get the publicity of the more flamboyant events.
How privileged we are to have so much culture available to us FREE in our city.

Jazz Lovers - Here's the name of a GREAT jazz film recommended by the founder of the Newport Jazz Festival
George Wein, founder of the Newport Jazz Festival 60 years ago now a frail 88 years old, was stellar in introducing the jazz film, Jazz on a Summer's Day that depicts the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival when he spoke last week at the National Archives. How disappointing to see such a small audience at Archives. BUT the DVD is available, and I can see why George raved about it. Some of the greats giving outstanding performances were:
