How fortunate we are that so many outstanding cultural events are not only free, but are also relatively easily accessible by bus and metro. In continuing to list these events I depend primarily on four venues: Politics and Prose Bookstore, the Library of Congress, the National Archives and films at the National Gallery of Art.

Jazz Lovers - Here's the name of a GREAT jazz film recommended by the founder of the Newport Jazz Festival
George Wein, founder of the Newport Jazz Festival 60 years ago now a frail 88 years old, was stellar in introducing the jazz film, Jazz on a Summer's Day that depicts the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival when he spoke last week at the National Archives. How disappointing to see such a small audience at Archives. BUT the DVD is available, and I can see why George raved about it. Some of the greats giving outstanding performances were:
